WEEK 10 : Transdisciplinary approach for sustainable development

Transdisciplinary approach is an approach to curriculum integration which dissolves the boundaries between the conventional disciplines and organizes teaching and learning around the construction of meaning in the context of real-world problems or themes.

Hence, transdisciplinary approach best develops effective change agents who can successfully work within the context of political, cultural, and economic concerns for sustainable development. This is because, a transition towards the sustainable use of our planet’s resources can only be achieved through deliberate processes of transformation, involving collaboration and integration across scientific disciplines, civil society, governments, and other stakeholders.

In short, Transdisciplinary approach is the exploration of a relevant concept, issue or problem that integrates the perspectives of multiple disciplines in order to connect new knowledge and deeper understanding to real life experiences.

For example, as a student, we explore ways in which we discover and express ideas, our feelings, nature, different cultures, beliefs and values, creativity and our appreciation of aesthetics. Through different ways of exploration, we develop a layered understanding of tour suroundings  and the connections they have with the rest of humanity.
