WEEK 11: Our sustainable development project

Project: · Project on reused plastic bottles into pencil cases among neighbourhoods in Tanjung Batu Laut, Tawau, Sabah.

My groupmate and I decided we want to do a project on recycled plastic bottles that we collect from our neighbourhood that has been thrown away at the sea by irresponsible people. The plastic bottle then we reused and transformed it to be a useful pencil case. Later, this pencil case that we have made we will give to the kids who are needed around our neighbourhood. This project focuses on two of the goals in sustainable development which are life below water and clean water and sanitation. 

Firstly, the outcome of our project is to take as good care of Life below water as possible as we could. It is because it helps to conserve and sustainably use the world’s oceans, seas and marine resources. As we know, plastic bottles threaten the existence of life underwater right from smaller fishes to huge mammals and amphibians in several ways. For an example, fish, seabirds, sea turtles, and marine mammals can become entangled in or ingest plastic debris, causing suffocation, starvation, and drowning. 

Secondly, our project may help to clean water and sanitation especially in our neighbourhood for our own goods. This is really important as water plays a vital role in our day to day life cycle and it is a part of every human living in this world. Proper water and sanitation are a key foundation for achieving the Sustainable development goals, including good health and gender equality. By managing our water sustainably, we are also able to better manage our production of food and energy and contribute to decent work and economic growth. 

In conclusion, Plastic bottle is cheap, easy to get and versatile, making it ideal for many applications, but many of its useful qualities have led to it becoming an environmental problem. Plastic is a valuable resource but polluting the planet with it is unnecessary and unsustainable
